Rain plagued
the Bike Week Nationals this year, raining out the test and tune session
and a qualifying round planned for Friday as well as much of the Saturday
Qualifying day. Sportsman classes
were able to get one round of qualifying in on Saturday before cold temps
and even colder track temps made further passes too dangerous to
risk. Safety is paramount, and we
applaud the efforts of AHDRA and Gainesville Raceway on putting safety
first!!! Due to it being
the first race of the season for us, a new motor built by Super-V Cycles
(and what an awesome motor it is!), and not being able to get any testing
in, we were not able to qualify with our one pass in SEP. The bike with its new motor
configuration jumped up and shot down the track faster than we expected –
setting new personal records (11.14!!!) and running far faster than we
thought possible and too fast for SEP’s 11.50! It’s hard to be too disappointed in
running under the index when you go faster than you ever have in your
career! We qualified in
the top 16 in ET, gaining a couple of extra bonus points. We won our first race on Sunday,
dialing an 11.11 by running pretty close to our number. We dialed the 11.11 again for our 2nd
round, but topped our personal best yet AGAIN and ran a 10.97 and broke
out. Even after all
that rain, there was still something to smile about. Ü Click
