The Finals
The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
We
had been looking forward to this race for 2 years! Chip’s family and many friends live
here in Vegas and we hadn’t been out since the race in 2005 (when we had
a different bike and it spent more time on our pit-shop floor than the
track). So not only did we get to
see our race family and friends once again, we were able to visit with
our family who joined us at the track for all three days – Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday. As an added
bonus, Maus and Chip have now been married for 4 years and she FINALLY
met one of Chip’s best buds, Hymie (aka Dennis).
He lives up in Wyoming
and came down to see his bro race and meet the Maus.
There
was so much fun, laughter, joy, and memory making here this weekend. In her rush to get to the airport, Maus
forgot the camera charger!!!
OOOOOOPS! So, of course the
digital camera was dead and many moments were NOT captured on film.
Luckily,
our good friend Russ Barnes (Rusty) had a working camera and the Maus
worked with the digital part of the video camera and some moments WERE
immortalized. Thanks so much,
Rusty! You saved the weekend!!
We
(ALL of us – Rusty, Mom, Sue, Phil, Hymie,
Chip, and Maus) want to thank Outlaw
Racing Fuels. They prepared 30 turkeys and all the fixings and hosted
a big Thanksgiving dinner for racers, crews and their families, proceeds
to go to DRAW – Drag Racing
Association of Women. To quote
from DRAW’s website:
“DRAW's motto is "Fast
Help For Fast Friends" and [their] sole mission is providing
financial and emotional support to qualified individuals involved in a
drag racing accident at a track.”
Without Outlaw Racing Fuels, we never would have had
the opportunity to sit down together as a family and give thanks for all
that we hold dear – family and friends.
There was no way for all of us to be together all at once at any
other time. We weren’t the only
family who benefited from this unique experience, either! It was a beautiful, happy gathering of
the collective racing family. We
cherish the memories of this dinner!
Okay, enough of the sap already…. Get on with the
event….
